Immersion - forgiveness of sins

Those in the SCM believe that immersion is part of the salvation process. Campbell and Stone were conflicted about how to create unity surrounding this subject from the very beginning. Campbell noted that, “in our judgment, there is not on earth a person who can have as full an assurance of justification or of remission of sins, as the person who has believed, confessed his faith, and been intelligently buried and raised with the Lord” (Highers, 2019). Acts 2:38-39 is the scripture that help the founders arrive at their conclusion that a Christian should be baptized as part of defining characteristics of a follower. This does not mean that immersion is part of salvation. It is our conviction that the method of baptism should however be carried out through immersion of the believer.
