Walter Scott used an easy way for people to grasp the Gospel message. He believed that everyone should have the opportunity to make their own choice about living for Christ. He also believed that his message should be an easy one for people to understand. On his evangelistic outreaches he would often teach the five-finger message to children and encourage the children to tell their parents to come to hear his preaching. This method of conveying the Gospel message is still used today. The five fingers stand for: “Faith, repentance, baptism, remission of sins, gift of the Holy Spirit” (Webb, 2003, p. 137).
